The following is a Letter to the Editor to the The Daily Record submitted by the LWV of Wayne County explaining the cancellation of Candidate’s Night:
The League of Women Voters of Wayne County is cancelling the Candidates Night event that was scheduled for October 11th at Wayne College. This was to be our annual non-partisan event for voters to get a chance to ask questions of the candidates and have discussion about the issues.
The cancellation is due to a lack of candidate participation in the event. We are disappointed that the public will lose this opportunity to hear from the candidates.
We support democracy by allowing all candidates to have a voice. We feel it is very important for ordinary citizens to have a chance for dialog with their future leaders. Regardless if we disagree, it is still valuable to discuss and listen, face to face.
We encourage all citizens to check their voter registration. You can do this by going on the web page of the Wayne County Board of Elections, or call them at 330-287-5480. We encourage all citizens to inform themselves about the candidates, and vote. Early voting starts on October 12th, and Election day is November 8th. For more information you can check us out at lwvwaynecounty.org, and on Facebook.
